Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Meet, and other Google services faced a threat to their operation on the 20th of August.
The problem had impacted many users globally. Several social media customers suggested troubles with sending emails through Gmail and importing documents to Google Drive. As per Twitter user reports, several users around the world couldn’t access their emails on Gmail on the morning of the 20th of August. Some users had also mentioned having problems when adding attachments to their emails.
The various Google issues people were dealing with were:
- Gmail sending issues.
- Meeting recording issues.
- Creating file problems in Drive.
- CSV user uploads issues in Admin Console.
- Posting messaging issues in Google Chat.
- Sites adding new pages issues.
- Keep issues.
- Voice mail problems.
As per the details on downtime tracking website DownDetector, mass reports about the Gmail outage emerged at around 9:30am IST today. The map available on the DownDetector site showed the areas affected. In many parts of the world, including India, the problems were not limited to some countries and affected users. Also, the G Suite Status Dashboard was updated to mirror troubles that have had an effect on Gmail.
In addition to Gmail, as constant with the G Suite Status Dashboard, Google offerings like Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Meet had been down globally. Since morning, many customers importing documents to Google Drive, writing content material to Google Docs or making video calls the usage of Google Meet reported problems.
What did google do to tackle the situation
The company has confirmed that the problem has been resolved after numerous Google services were impacted on Thursday. Many users have complained that the outage impacted multiple Google services. The maximum number of complaints was reported at around 12 PM on Thursday, according to Downdetector.com.
GSuite status dashboard is a website that provides performance information on various Google services. On Thursday morning, it said the company was investigating reports with Gmail about an issue. Other Google services such as Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Meet have been restored as per the dashboard, too.
A Google spokesperson confirmed that the problem has now been resolved, according to a PTI report.
The company said in its new update: “… We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued help. Google’s highest priority is system reliability. Continuous changes are being made to enhance our processes.”
Google kept users updated with the issues since the company had claimed they were investigating the issues. The company also reported that sending e-mails, Meet recording, making files in Drive, posting messages in Google Chat, among others, was disruptive. The tech giant hasn’t explained the cause behind the outage problem and its effect.
The most significant impact was on G-mail users, many of whom were unable to complete their daily work. Ever since the whole COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of organizations and companies have heavily relied on various apps to continue their working process.
The various Google issues had a huge impact on a significant population that has opted for online mode of working currently. A lot of small businesses highly rely on G Suite, so with the services being down, it was a major inconvenience.
Down Detector, had received almost 3,000 complaints from around the globe including India, Australia, Japan, the UK, and Germany. About forty percent of the pronounced issues involved users who were unable to send attachments and about thirty percent reported problems with logging into their accounts. Fifteen percent said they could not get chat messages. The largest difficulty for Google Drive changed into record syncing, accounting for sixty-eight percent of all mentioned issues.
