Earlier in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, it was suggested that the World Cup T20 is likely to be canceled this year.
Loss of BCCI due to the cancellation of T20 World Cup
Covid19 pandemic has shut up schools, colleges, businesses, and startups. People have started online video conferencing modes like ZOOM and GOOGLE MEET to learn and attend their meetings. But due to this total shutdown businesses have to bear a great loss in terms of money and other resources.
All the cricket councils including ICC and BCCI generate revenue by hosting the different cricket matches like one day international, T20, and Test matches. This revenue is used for cricket advertisements, to pay to the cricket players and winners. This is the same case with BCCI and ICC councils. Even the cricket players are not getting any kind of money. If not World Cup T20, then BCCI will host the IPL soon.
They told that after the postponement of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it is their high priority to host the IPL matches. The failure to host the tournament will cost the board close to INR 4000 crore. As soon as the conditions improve, IPL will be hosted outside India.
Final decision to come by next week
Although Media reports are stating for the postponement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, The Asian Cricket Council is likely to make a final decision by next week, according to Sri Lankan news outlet the Sunday Times.
IPL 2020 Likely to Happen in UAE or Sri Lanka, Says BCCI Official
IPL is likely to be held outside India this year due to the pandemic. Interestingly, Sri Lanka and UAE are curious to host this season on ICC MEN’S T20 World Cup. The thirteenth edition of the IPL was scheduled to be played between March 29 and May 17. Also, New Zealand has joined this race to Host IPL 2020.
This will be not the first time that IPL will be staged outside the country. Before this, In 2009, due to the general elections in the country, the entire second season was held in South Africa. In 2014, the opening few matches were held in UAE, again due to general elections in India. However, in
2019, BCCI managed to keep the league in the country despite elections in several states.

Hosting IPL or other T20 matches in New Zealand will cause real troubles for the sports audience. Time zone is the biggest issue with New Zealand as India has a seven and half hour time difference with the country. Even if the games are staged there late evenings, it will be 12:30 pm in the afternoon in India meaning office-goers, who may be working from home even, will miss the action.
